Staff Writer
VON ORMY— Charlie's Youth Paintball Center located at 15430 IH 35 South, Von Ormy will be opening on October the 18th.  Charlie's Paintball Center was named after the memory of Carlos Omar Contreras, aka Carlitos, aka Charlie.
Charlie was the oldest son of Deacon Larry and Nancy Contreras who past away on September of 2011.  Deacon Larry Contreras serves at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish in Macdona and formerly at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Von Ormy.
The center was built to bring the sport of Paintball to the southside of San Antonio and specifically to serve the communities of Von Ormy, Macdona, Somerset, Lytle, Natalia, Devine, Castroville, and Poteet.  The facility will open with three paintball fields.  One "Speedball" field, and two wooded fields with three more to come online in the near future.  The fields will be set on 8 acres of wooded and two large ponds of water.
The fields will also be used for Christian Youth Retreats and prayer center.  The new Paintball company will be dedicate some of their proceeds for Suicide and Drug Prevention Organizations specifically assisting our youth and young adults in Carlos' name.
Paintball is a competitive game and sport, and like other competitive sports relies on a set of actions that move a player towards the purpose of eliminating the opposition by tagging them with capsules containing water soluble dye and gelatin shell outside (referred to as paintballs) propelled from a device called a paintball marker (commonly referred to as a paintball gun). Paintballs are composed of a non-toxic, biodegradable, water soluble polymer.  What makes paintball different from other sports is the cool equipment required to play and the extra dose of adrenaline. The equipment consists of a paintball gun / marker, a pressurized air tank, a comfortable ventilated mask, chest protector, and paintballs.
To play, paintball requires a player who wants a more challenging, high-stakes version of , hide-and-seek, or capture the flag. It can be played with as few as two people or as many as 200; a game can last 5 minutes or 2 hours. But the objective is always the same, eliminate the opposition by hitting them with your paintball before they hit you.
For your first time out you will be playing games of approximately 5 vs 5 and the games will last 5 to 15 minutes.
Depending on the field you play, tactics will vary. A paintball game will be different every time, but there's one thing for sure when you play at Charlie's Paintball: it's an adrenaline rush.  Charlie's Paintball will start with one "Speedball" field, and two wooded fields that can be combined to one big field that can accommodate up to 40 players.  Charlie's Paintball will be adding three more additional fields with the signature field a attack and defend fort style compound that can also be used for close quarter scenarios.
Paintball is an extreme sport however paintball is one of the safest activities out there. There are several safety measures in place: firm industry standards governing approved paintball masks; thorough safety briefings for player; and limits on paintball gun velocities help prevent injuries. Also, Charlie's Paintball has  trained referees to ensure that everyone follows the rules and stays safe, while maximizing fun!
Anyone who is 10 years or older can play and no experience is necessary.Special attention is given to beginner players with beginners' only games, that way everyone you are playing with and against is the same skill level. We want to make sure you have the best time ever and play safe.  You can get addicted to the fun and to the adrenaline of paintball, and you will want to come back.Plus our top-of-the-line rental guns will ensure you have a great time with us.
Charlie's Paintball will be featuring "soft impact" paintball guns which can be used for younger players and or players who don't like the sting of the larger paintball (.68 size paintball) but will be a smaller paintball (.50 size paintball) with a softer impact to the players.
CYPC is looking at October 19th as our Pre-Opening Ceremony with October 20th as the grand opening date. will be starting with two fields with two more to follow. Both regular paintball equipment and low impact play equipment.
