RUIZ-HERRERA CEMETERY ASSOCIATION PLANS ANNUAL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS EVENT

VON ORMY— The Ruiz-Herrera Cemetery Association  is planning its annual family reunion and cemetery blessing to be held on Saturday, November 1 at the cemetery on Ruiz-Herrera Lane.
The Ruiz-Herrera Cemetery is a private cemetery that dates to the 1840’s.  Originally on the Ruiz-Herrera Ranch it is the burial site of many of the early settlers of Von Ormy, including its founders Blas Herrera and Francisco Antonio Ruiz for which it is named.
Deacon Larry Contreras is scheduled to perform the cemetery blessing.  A historical presentation and family reunion will follow.   All those interested in local genealogy and history are welcome to attend.   The event begins at 10:00 a.m.
Pedro Lila-Torres reports that the Cemetery Association recently received a donation of land that will allow for additional room in the old section of the cemetery.  The Association rarely allows burials in the old section because it is full and the graves in the oldest section are often unmarked.
